The lights are on in Ruhiira! A trading center at the intersection of two roads in Western, rural Uganda, an hour drive outside of Mbarara – Ruhiira’s SharedSolar system is working and providing prepaid electricity to the community and many small businesses. As shown in the pictures below, many of the consumers have not had electricity in their business or home previously.
The training regarding how to use the scratch cards to add credit (“power time”), and turn on/off circuits via SMS went ok, until the data connectivity on the LocalSMS device went down – all the more reason we’re thankful for the coming Airtel/Wifi service.
